New York House Call Physicians: Your Doctor in the Family have experienced increased frequency of feeding tubes (G tubes, PEG tubes, G-J Tubes) falling out in the home in recent years.
The life span of feeding tubes seems to have dropped to roughly 1-3 months despite proper maintenance, Unfortunately, feeding tubes come out erratically and need to be replaced quickly before the hole between the skin and stomach closes.
New York House Call Physicians: Your Doctor in the Family have physicians, surgeons, and nurses all ready to replace the appropriate feeding tube at your bedside to avoid a trip to the emergency room.
You will be asked the make and model of the feeding tubes (G tubes, PEG tubes, G-J Tubes), the gauge (=size or diameter), and the balloon size.
If we cannot find the exact right feeding tube for you, we can insert a temporary tube to avoid a whole new procedure in some cases.
All feeding tubes (G tubes, PEG tubes, G-J Tubes) that are replaced will be followed by an immediate post-placement portable abdominal x-ray using a safe water based contrast agent called MD-Gastroview. This makes sure your tube is working and in the right place. Thus is our protocol and supported by current literature.
